If you receive an email message with any of the following subjects:
- E-mail account security warning.
- Notify about using the e-mail account.
- Warning about your e-mail account.
- Important notify about your e-mail account.
- Email account utilization warning.
- Notify about your e-mail account utilization.
- E-mail account disabling warning.
do not click on the attachment or otherwise open it. It is most likely infected with WORM_BAGLE.J.
Some of these infected messages appear as if they are coming from your Domain name or the Support Desk of your office. Please be advised that DV Technologies nor your office will ever email attachments that require a password.
The Bagle and Netsky viruses affect PCs running Windows only.
There are numerous variants of BAGLE. In addition, other worms like NETSKY and MYDOOM are quite active and rely on the same principles of social engineering to work. They attempt to gain your trust by appearing to be from official sources (e.g. administrator@ or support@) or asserting they are supplying something you need (e.g. a file to remove viruses.)
Never open unexpected attachments, even if they appear to be sent by someone you know!
Contact the sender to confirm that the attachment was intended to be sent. A virus can send a message without the knowledge of the account holder, either from that person's computer or from another computer.
Even when the attachment is legitimate, ALWAYS check it with anti-virus software prior to opening it.
A sample of the email text you may receive in this virus email follows:
Dear user of YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME-HERE.com gateway e-mail server,
We warn you about some attacks on your e-mail account. Your computer may
contain viruses, in order to keep your computer and e-mail account safe,
please, follow the instructions.
For further details see the attach.
For security purposes the attached file is password protected. Password
is "22003".
